Alice Dominates in Wonderland TA2 Muscle Car Debut

Seventeen-year-old Alice Buckley set the fastest time in combined practise for this weekends Round 4 of the TFH Hire Muscle Car Series - presented by Maritimo Luxury Yachts at Queensland Raceway this afternoon.

Backed by GM Performance, Buckley’s Camaro was fastest in two of the three sessions, setting a time of 1.13.03, to be just over 1/10th of a second faster the Hayden Hume’s Ford Mustang with Ben Gomersall, Tyler Cheney and Lachlan Evennett rounding out the top 5.

Series leader Jarrod Hughes in the second GM Performance backed Camaro was half a second off the pace in 6th, albeit on older tyres, with Josh Thomas, Marcos Ambrose Motorsports Josh Webster, Hi-Tec Oils Camaro racer Brad Gartner and New Zealand’s Ayrton Hodson rounding out the top 10.

Buckleys performance was all the more impressive as the regular Toyota 86 Cup competitor is having her first drive in a TA2 spec car and with limited testing, the rookie led home a classy field of experienced and talented drivers.

Circo Master Class driver Mark Crutcher was an early casualty with an engine issue, so swapped back to his regular yellow Mustang for the final session and qualifying tomorrow.

Dodge Challenger driver Hayden Jackson lost an axle in the final practise session, however 23 starters will line up for the weekends 4 races, as part of the Hi-Tec Super Series.

IES Camaro driver Jarrod Hughes leads the series from Ben Gomersall and TFH Mustang driver Josh Thomas, brother Diesel Thomas leads the rookie standings and Graham Cheney the Circo Master Class.

Qualifying for Race 1 will be held Saturday morning at 9.30 am.

This weekends round will be covered live on SBS, SBS On Demand and Fox Sports/Kayo from 1 pm Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

QUOTES
Alice Buckley, #150 Chevrolet Racing, Chev Camaro

“I’m very happy with today - obviously it wasn’t quite what we expected, but for only my second time in the car, I feel really confident and competitive. Looking ahead to tomorrow, there are still a lot of unknowns. Everyone’s running different tyres and different strategies, so it’s hard to predict, but we’re feeling positive.”
