Buckley and Slade take TA2 Muscle Car from Enduro from Kostecki/Morris and Lowndes.
Eighteen-year-old Alice Buckley again proved her first win in a TA2 car at Queensland Raceway last round wasn’t a one-off performance, by backing up with two race wins during the TA2 Tag Team Enduro at Queensland Raceway today.
Driving the GM Performance backed Camaro, Buckley won her individual sprint race in a flag to flag win, then combined with mentor Tim Slade to win the 45-minute mini enduro with a compulsory driver change mid race.
Buckley took the sprint victory from Lachlan Evennett in the Ashley Jarvis prepared Ford Mustang, team mate and series leaser Jarrod Hughes, Clay Richards, son of Steven in his newly acquired Mustang with veteran racer and Bathurst winner Paul Morris rounding out the top 5.
The co-drivers also had their own 14 lap sprint race, which was red flagged after a Turn 1 incident involving Brodie Kostecki and Jordan Cox which triggered a chain reaction that claimed Diesel Thomas and Ben Bargwanna.
On the re-start, James Golding led from pole, from Slade in the car he is sharing with Buckley, then Kostecki, Nathan Herne and Declan Fraser giving the Hayden Jackson’s Challenger a strong run.
Todd Hazelwood fell back at the start and was carrying damage from the earlier incident, while Craig Lowndes was an early retirement in the Jarrod Hughes Camaro. Golding went on to win from Slade by just under two seconds.
The combined points from both drivers finishing positions in the sprint races determined the grid positions for the 45-minute Tag Team Enduro,
Buckley again led from the flag withstanding pressure from Evennett and Jarrod Hughes, while the Jackson/Fraser Dodge went off at Turn 4. The compulsory pit stop was called at the 20 minute mark with Buckley handing over to Slade, while Josh Webster for Marcos Ambrose Motorsport short cut the pit stop time by 10 seconds and was handed a penalty.
The Kostecki/Morris Norwell Motorplex Mustang was also looking stout with Kostecki moving into second over the final few laps after 3rd placed Craig Lowndes in the Jarrod Hughes Camaro was locked in 4th gear, although still finished on the podium.
While Hughes moved further ahead in the TA2 Muscle car series standings, each driver will again have a sprint race tomorrow, with the results of all races determining the grid for another 45-minute Tag Team Enduro, televised live on SBS and simulcast on Fox Sports/Kayo.
