Buckley and Slade take TA2 Tag Team Enduro at Queensland Raceway
Backing up their great run yesterday, 18-year-old Alice Buckley and co -driver Tim Slade won the TA2 Muscle Car Tag Team Enduro despite a nail-biting last lap effort to make the chequered flag at Queensland Raceway during Rd 5 of the TFH Muscle Car Series - presented by Maritimo Luxury Yachts.
Slade opened the account with by finishing second to Nathan Herne in the co-drivers sprint race Sunday morning, after the twice national Trans AM title winner made the move around the outside of Slade at Turn 5. Todd Hazelwood finished in 3rd for TFH Hire ahead of Nash Morris who had a blinder going from 22nd to 4th in the Mustang he’s sharing with Diesel Thomas to take out the Hyperco Hard Charger Award. Brodie Kostecki rounded out the Top 5.
The main series drivers 14 lap sprint race saw Buckley jump away from Lachlan Evennett, Jarrod Hughes, Clay Richards, Ben Gomersall, Diesel Thomas and Paul Morris.
Evennett claimed the lead through Turns 4 and 5 while Hughes also passed Buckley to move into second, from Gomersall, Diesel Thomas and Clay Richards in the Mustang he’s sharing with Ben Bargwanna. Josh Webster was a non-finisher with electrical issues in the Marcos Ambrose Motorsport Mustang.
The grid for the 45-minute mini enduro final was set on the combined points of all races with Buckley/Slade on pole from Evennett/Golding, with Morris/Kostecki and the Tom Davies/Nathan Herne Camaro 4th.
Buckley led early, while Morris took Evennett for 2nd at Turn 5 allowing Hughes to also move through as well, taking the lead from team mate Buckley, before dropping back to 4th in the RAS Suspension Camaro. Danny Reidy was the first into the gravel at Turn 6, setting off a safety car just as the 20-minute pit window for the compulsory driver change was called.
Hughes, Gomersall and Davies were first to pit under the short safety car period, while Buckley pitted under green a lap later to hand over to Slade, still rejoining in the lead from the Evennett/ Golding Mustang, then Kostecki/ Morris, Hughes/Lowndes, Gomersall /Seton and the Herne/Davies Camaro.
The Evennett/Golding entry slipped off the road at Turn 6 just as the leading Buckley/Slade started to smoke heavily with oil pressure issues and Slade pulled off on the infield, before returning to the pits under safety car for a quick assessment.
Herne moved to second on the re start in the Tom Davies Camaro while Mark Crutcher was taken out by George Miedecke under brakes at Turn 6. With the Morris/Kostecki Mustang now in the lead from Davies/Herne, Hughes/Lowndes and Thomas/Hazelwood, Tim Blanchard fired into Turn 6 all locked up slamming into the Hayden Jackson/Declan Fraser Challenger.
The Slade/Buckley Camaro made it out after repairs just in time for the last lap, to claim 17th overall and enough points to take the Tag Team Enduro from Morris/Kostecki and Evennett/Golding, while Morris/Kostecki, Herne/Davies and Hughes/Lowndes claimed the final race podium.
Jarrod Hughes continues to dominate the overall championship point score, while Paul Morris won the Circo Master Class for the weekend. Ben Bargwanna picked up the AC Delco Power of Love Award after an all-night rebuild last night while Nathan Herne and Tom Davies won the Wilwood Big Braker Award for a strong 4th place overall.
Rd 6 of the TFH TA2 Muscle Car Series - presented by Maritimo Luxury Yachts will head to Mallala September 26-28 as part of the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series.
