Herne and Rayner Crowned Novus Glass TA2 Kings of the West
)
Nathan Herne and Clinton Rayner have taken out the titles of Kings Of The West with Herne walking away as outright King, while Clinton Rayner takes home of the Kings of The West “Masters Trophy” for the highest place driver over 45 years of age.
Herne returned to the TA2 class in a familiar body shape in the Dodge Challenger sharing a pair of victories with Jarrod Hughes in the AC Delco Mustang, but it was Herne who took the title by winning the final race despite both drivers finishing equal on points.
Rayner proved the surprise packet of the weekend aboard his #76 Rayner Racing Camaro showing great pace and consistency earning third overall, adding another trophy to his Masters Crown.
Rayner only just clung to the podium position when he was challenged and eventually passed by another local driver and defending King of the West Brett Niall with the two racing hard throughout the journey eventually inviting young gun Jackson Callo in to the fight until Callo’s car suffered a drive line failure exiting the bowl, putting pay to his race.
Speedway star Jason Pryde, Graham Cheney and Mark Crutcher finished within 3 seconds of each other while Domain Ramsay and WA fan favourite Robbie Farr who made it back for race four after not making race three due to accident damage, went nose to tail lap after lap, with Ramsay eventually winning out.
Ron Moller and Alan Letcher were the last of the finishers, with this race rumoured to be Moller’s last behind the wheel.
The Novus Glass TA2 Kings of the West proved to be a hit with the Supercars crowd and with four races without safety cars, great TV and entertainment with amazing feedback from the crowds the “TA2 Kings of the West” could very well be an annual adventure for the Mustang VS Camaro VS Challenger Series.
QUOTES
Nathan Herne, #29 Blue Gold Industries Dodge Challenger
“Taking home the TA2 Kings Of The West title in the Dodge has been unreal and it’s been a really good learning weekend which I think will pay dividends for my upcoming Trans Am race later this month in Darwin.”
“I had great battles with Jarrod all weekend and we were really happy with the long run pace of the Dodge so I’m pleased for all involved.”
Jarrod Hughes, #118 AC Delco Ford Mustang
“Racing the TA2 Mustang in Perth this weekend was absolutely brilliant and even though we suffered a few brake issues that lingered in the second half of the weekend stopping us from converting our pace, I was really pleased to finish on equal points with Nathan after some serious battles.”
“I can’t thank AC Delco enough for the support and a big thanks to TA2 for inviting me along, and Supercars for putting on the event."
Clinton Rayner #76 Rayner Racing Camaro
“To walk away with third outright plus the Masters title is an unbelievable result and to be frank it was a far better result than what we expected coming in to the weekend and to do it in front of my home crowd makes this a very special memory.”
“This category is just so awesome, and this result has definitely lit the fire, so I dare say you’ll see more of us in the future.”
Matty Mack - TA2 Muscle Car Series Category Manager
“What a great weekends racing and I cannot be more thankful to our East and West coast teams for putting on a ripper display of TA2 competition, to Novus Glass for their support, to Supercars for the last minute invite and for the amazing fan support and interaction.”
“Running four races safety car fee, having all three brands on the podium, a Trans Am Champion, a Dunlop Super 2 driver and a local Perth wheel man taking the top results was a dream outcome and I’m hoping this becomes an annual event for all our customers into the future.”
